SEO Traffic Tips

Taken from www.killerseotips.com

Search engine optimization is the process of setting up a website to hopefully rank well in the search engines. These days most SEO is focused on Google, because Google has the largest search engine market share.

Search engines are a great source of targeted traffic. When someone goes to Google and types in ‘Bose headphones’, chances are they are either ready to buy some Bose headphones, or they are at least researching a potential purchase at some point in the future. This is targeted traffic.

Targeted traffic means visitors who are looking specifically for whatever it is you are selling or offering. This is exactly the type of traffic every website should strive to get. Untargeted traffic may often be available in much larger quantities, but it will consume a lot of bandwidth for very little return on your investment.

Targeted traffic, on the other hand, will usually be in lesser quantities, but it will convert much better.

If you want to get more targeted traffic from search engines, there are a few things you can do.

1. Target the right keywords. Yes, targeting ‘free mp3s’ might bring you a lot of traffic, but it’s unlikely they are going to buy anything. Unless you are promoting a CPA offer that actually has free mp3s, you’re better off targeting keyword phrases such as ‘buy Beatles mp3s’. You wouldn’t get as much traffic, but the quality would bring you a much greater return on your investment.

2. Link to your site with anchor text. Anchor text is the text that is linked to another web page or site. The anchor text that points to a page is weighed rather heavily in its search engine ranking. If most of the links to your site say ‘click here’, but your keyword phrase is ‘antique cars’, you’d probably be more likely to rank for ‘click here’ than you would for ‘antique cars’! Use related keyword phrases to link back to your site whenever possible.

Analyze your competition to see where they are getting their backlinks, how many they have, and what their anchor text is. Then try to copy their tactics, while improving upon them. Your best chance to outrank your competition is to do what they do, but do it better!
